How To Mount External Storage Using An Outside Source
Before beginning please note: The storage you wish to mount must use one of the following to be compatible with Nextcloud: S3, FTP, SFTP, WebDAV, Nextcloud’s own protocol, or OpenStack Object Storage.
1) Log into Nextcloud using your admin account
2) Open the admin account’s profile dropdown
In the toolbar of the Nextcloud homescreen, click on the admin account’s profile icon (the A in a circle on the upper right of the screen). The account profile dropdown appears.
3) Open the Administration Settings Window
In the account profile dropdown window, click on “Administration settings”
4) Go to the “External storage” page
Clicking on “Administration settings” in step 3 opens a sidebar on the left of the screen containing the “Personal” and “Administration” menus. In the “Administration” menu, click on “External storage” to open the “External storage” page.
This brings up the “External storage” page, where you can select and configure the external storage you would like to mount as a secondary Nextcloud storage device.
Note: External storage source must support S3, FTP, SFTP, WebDAV, or Nextcloud’s own protocol in order to work.
5) Select external storage type
Using the “Add storage” dropdown in the “External storage” field, select the type of external storage to mount.
6) Configure storage
The options that appear in the “Authentication”, “Configuration”, and “Available for” fields vary depending on the type of external storage selected. You will make selections based on your particular situation. Fields outlined in red are required, and when all required fields are complete the storage is automatically saved. The following screenshot shows one example of the options that may appear after selecting a storage type.
7) Confirmation of external storage mounting
Once all required fields are filled and the storage is automatically saved, a circle appears to the left of the storage location. A green circle indicates that the storage is ready for use, while a red or yellow circle indicates that the storage was not able to be connected. In the example below the red circle indicates that the storage is not connected.
